Roswell, Chris, and I had the best time in Newport last weekend! It really is the cutest town to just spend a day walking through. From the shops to the restaurants to the attractions, there are a lot of dog-friendly options.
Dog-Friendly Restaurants
- Diego’s – this is where we ate dinner on Saturday night, and it was amazing! They had a lot of space outside in the dog-friendly area and even have their own Instagram account dedicated to the dogs of Diego’s. Everyone was so welcoming to Roswell there, and their margaritas were awesome.
- Coffee Grinder – for snacks and coffee with your pup!
- The Deck – pasta for your and a fresh bowl of water for you dog, what could be better?
- O’Brien’s Pub – found right in the middle of downtown, you can eat on the patio with your pup.
Dog-Friendly Hotels
- Paws on Pelham – we had an amazing stay here, I can’t say enough good things about this (extremely) dog-friendly hotel. It had more of a cozy bed and breakfast vibe to it, and was decked out floor to ceiling in dog decor. We were greeted by the most friendly and knowledgable staff, we felt so at home. Our room was adorable, clean, and really spacious! Our bed was one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept in, but the best part was probably that Roswell had his own little dog house in the room. It also came with food and water bowls, complimentary dog treats, an amazing “ruff deck”, free breakfast and coffee, and so much more. We can’t wait to stay there again soon!

Dog-Friendly Things To Do
- Newport Cliff Walk – we spent Sunday morning walking Newport’s famous cliff walk and taking in the views. The trail goes from easy to difficult, so we stayed on the first couple miles of the easy trail. To do the whole thing make sure you’re wearing good shoes! Pro tip: parking can be difficult near the beach where most people start the walk. We found cheap metered parking with plenty of spots on Narragansett Ave, right near the famous “Forty Steps”. Keep your dog leashed and they’ll have a blast.
- Newport Vineyards – wineries are the best when they’re dog-friendly, and this one is awesome! I’ve been a few times and highly recommend going, especially if the weather is nice. Make sure to dedicate a few hours for this trip, you won’t want to rush in and out.
- Shopping – there are so many dog-friendly shops in downtown Newport. Our favorites and so welcoming to dogs were The Black Dog (they have two locations in Newport!) and KJP.
- Newport Boat Ride – explore Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay with your dogs and friends on this private, BYOB cruise.
- Fort Adams State Park – with lots of space for walking your dog can let off some steam here.
- Wag Nation – a cute pet supply store and grooming spot in downtown Newport.
- AmazingCo – go on a mystery picnic throughout Newport, solving clues and picking up different delicious food items, leading you to a beautiful final location to eat your picnic with your pup.
I wanted to shout out and credit some of the sources I used as inspiration for our trip and how we found some great recommendations: Bring Fido, our friend Charlie’s blog, and the awesome staff & info table at Paws on Pelham.
