The Best Dachshund Breeders in New England

Looking for a dachshund puppy from a reputable breeder in New England but don’t know where to begin? Keep reading!

I support both responsible adoption and “shopping” – both methods can lead to very positive outcomes, but unfortunately, both can result in a negative outcome as well. There are many breeder scams out there, and a lot of well-intentioned people can become overwhelmed and don’t know where to start their search. This is one of my most asked questions that I receive every day: “what breeder do you recommend?” It’s hard to recommend breeders when I don’t know any, so I crowd-sourced the information!

I run a dachshund meetup account for local weenies (follow BostonWeens on Instagram if you have a local doxie!) and asked the members of the group if they had a good experience with a New England dachshund breeder. I compiled everyone’s feedback and experiences and pulled out the breeders that were recommended the most, with the most positive feedback. This way, I can safely say that these breeders are NOT going to scam you, which can be hard to find! I cannot, however, screen these breeders for anything other than recommendations, such as AKC registration, health tests, etc. That is on you to look into as your next step 🙂

Please read: I have not purchased a dog from any of these breeders, and don’t know any of them personally. I am not an expert on the topic. Please do your own research before committing to buying a puppy, and just use this list as a starting point. These breeders are listed in no particular order.

Thank you to everyone who helped contribute to this list and the adorable photo gallery. All photos were provided by the BostonWeens community, and their names are listed for credit when available. Photos represent dogs that came from the listed breeder.

With the holiday season approaching, we’re planning a trip with our dog. What tips can you share for preparing a pet for a long car ride? What should we bring along, and how can we minimize stress for our dog?

Someone just came in to my shop in Charleston, SC with a dachshund who reminded me of my Stu, who left this earth at age 14. : (
    I’ve been heartbroken ever since.
    It’s been three years.
Wish I could include a pic, but he was bigger than a mini, not as big as a standard size.

She said she got him in Vermont, but it was super busy today and I didn’t get a chance to ask her more before she left.

Stu had big feet, big brown eyes, and trotted along like a tiny rhino. 💕 brown with black
    He was sturdy and beautiful.

Many I see here have dainty little eyes and bodies. Not what I’m looking for.

I’ve only seen one like him, and and he came from the general area Stu came from, (San Luis Obispo),
but I’ve searched there to no avail because someone decided to acquire every available weenie there to “rehome” them, but decided to keep them all.

It doesn’t need to be black and tan. The two I saw that had similar features as Stu were piebald.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
    ☺️
